Welcome to the Labour & Palestine website. If you are a Labour Party member and want to see Labour speaking up for Palestine, this site is intended to help and support you.
Labour & Palestine is supported by Aslef, CWU, NUM, TSSA, Unison and Unite, and our founding statement has been signed by over 2500 Labour members from over 450 CLPs.
Our purpose is to build solid support for Palestine across the Party and the labour movement.
If you are interested in being informed and helping promoting Palestine within Labour please sign the ‘Speaking Up for Palestine’ statement here.
Our focus is on how Labour party members should harness the support there is for Palestine within the Party so it becomes a proud advocate of Palestinian rights as part of Labour’s ethical foreign policy.
In order to help do this, L & P will offer reliable information and practical campaign resources, to begin to build positive pressure within the Party to ensure that the Party and its members stand firmly in solidarity with the Palestinian people. We will also encourage Labour members to take part in solidarity actions with Palestine, as we did with the Labour bloc at the recent national demonstration for Palestine,
Labour Party Policy
After the killings of marchers in Gaza on the Right of Return March and Trump’s decision to move the US embassy to Jerusalem as part of his forthcoming ‘peace plan’, Palestine – now, more than ever – needs a strong, progressive Labour voice on its side.
The support for Palestine was demonstrated very clearly at last year’s Party conference. For the first time constituency delegates voted to discuss Palestine, passing a motion (see Party Policy) accompanied by a sea of Palestinian flags.
L&P had a very successful initial meeting at the Labour Party conference, and we are now establishing L&P as an independent social media platform to give support, advice and guidance to an informal network of Labour party members and activists.
L&P will aim to educate and energise the thousands of party members who are in support of Palestine by providing materials they can take back to their local communities and their CLPs, briefings for activists and practical assistance in their campaigning.
As part of this, L&P will provide information on Britain’s past role in Palestine, along with its present responsibilities towards the Palestinian people, to show how the language of solidarity with the Palestinian people can be inclusive, universal, progressive, and successful.
If you are interested in being informed and helping promoting Palestine within Labour please sign the Statement here and keep in touch.
If you would like to do something as well as signing the Statement, as a starting point get in touch here if you would like a speaker or more information.
